Processing services
Our minimum requirement for yarn spinning is 2.5# of clean (scoured by us) fiber. If you are sending wool, you should plan to send in at least 5# of wool due to an average loss of 50% in scouring and processing. We can help you add wool to your run if you need more, we can discuss options with you.
There is no minimum for roving or batts.
We do not spin 100% Alpaca, Llama or Southdown Babydoll yarn, we require at least 25% sheep wool supplementation to be able to process these fibers for the nicest yarn product.
Because we do not have a fiber separator, we are not able to make knitting or crocheting yarn out of dual coated fleeces such as Icelandic, Navajo-Churro, etc. or very long staple lengths (greater than 5”). We can talk with you about options such as roving or even possibly rug yarn.
All fleeces will be washed upon receipt at least once to evaluate cleanliness, no exceptions made. You are welcome to wash them before sending to us, but please do not add any softeners or conditioners to the fleeces and please note that we will still do at least one wash/rinse cycle to evaluate cleanliness. We use and recommend Basic H from Shaklee. Our machinery will not produce products up to our standards if there is dirt, residual lanolin or buildup. Washing is the most labor intensive and time consuming step, it is also the most critical in making quality products that we are proud of.
